Search anime characters
Type a name — Luffy, Levi, Gojo, Rem — in English or Japanese, and the picker queries AniList's database of anime characters live. Every result is a specific character: their own id, their own portrait, and the series they are actually from, shown right on the result row. That label matters more than it looks. This page picks people — Character ids — while the My 9 Anime page picks shows — work ids — and the two never mix. Luffy the character and One Piece the series are different entries on different grids, exactly as they should be.
Search results favor the characters everyone means first, so typing a common name surfaces mainstream characters instead of obscure namesakes. Duplicate protection works on character id — one Luffy per grid — while different characters who share a name stay separate picks. And nothing uploads anywhere: your grid and draft stay in your browser.
Discover characters from your favorite series
Not sure where to start? The Not sure what to pick? panel below the grid filters by series: tap ONE PIECE, Naruto, Attack on Titan, JUJUTSU KAISEN or any of the two dozen series in the hand-reviewed starter shelf, and real characters from that series rank themselves into candidates, and skipping characters you never want to see again keeps them away. Every suggestion is a verified character from that curated list — the tool never invents a character, never guesses a series relationship, and never dresses up numbers as a popularity chart.
A grid of characters reads differently from a show grid. Nine protagonists say one thing about you; a grid that mixes a hero, his rival, the mentor who died too early and the comic relief says far more about which characters actually stayed with you. Center-square logic applies: the one character you would defend in any argument belongs in the middle, and the corners frame the argument — that is how grids of characters tend to be read. Mix series freely or commit to one cast — both make a poster worth arguing about.
Customize your character collage
- 1. Fill nine slots. Search characters by name, tap series in the suggestion panel, or open an example grid below and remix it. Drag portraits into position on desktop, nudge them with arrow buttons on mobile, and pick from six themes — paper, dark, cream, vinyl, neon and red.
- 2. Full portraits, never cropped. Each cell letterboxes the complete character portrait on the theme's cell color — no sliced hair, no chopped chins. Add a title, subtitle and handle, and switch on character names under the grid so readers who do not know the faces still get the joke.
- 3. Export and share. Download a 1080×1080 square, a 1800×2100 poster or a 1080×1920 story — rendered in your browser, free, no watermark, no account. The share link encodes your exact nine characters, so a friend opens your grid, swaps one of the characters for theirs, and exports in under a minute.
Drafts save automatically in this browser, separately from every other grid you build here — your characters wait patiently while you decide whether slot nine goes to a hero or a menace among your characters.

Character names, portraits and series data are provided by AniList, a community-maintained database, through its public GraphQL API. Character art belongs to its creators and publishers; this tool shows it so you can assemble a personal grid, and all rights remain with their owners. Want the shows these characters live in? FAQ about the character grid maker
Is this different from the My 9 Anime grid?
Yes, completely. This page selects characters — Luffy, Levi, Gojo — using character ids. The My 9 Anime page selects series using work ids. The two never share picks, and a grid built here always reopens with characters, never shows.
Can I select characters from different shows?
Yes — mixing casts is half the fun. The suggestion panel's series filter exists for the opposite move too: tap one series and build its entire nine from its own roster.
Can I search characters by their Japanese names?
Yes — AniList matches both, so リヴァイ and Levi find the same character. Results show the romanized name with the series it belongs to.
Can I share my character grid with a friend?
Yes — once all nine characters are chosen, Copy Link builds a URL that reopens your exact grid on any device. Friends can remix it, swap one character, and export their own poster in seconds.
Is the character poster really free?
Yes: every theme, all three export sizes, suggestions and link sharing are free with no watermark and no account. Everything renders in your browser and drafts stay on your device.
